CAMBER SANDS

Situated only 5 miles from Rye, Camber Sands with its soft sandy dunes and seven miles of beach has become a popular destination with holidaymakers, filmmakers and second homebuyers. Many of the small beach front buildings in ‘The Suttons’ have been either rebuilt or renovated into smart, architecturally innovative buildings, many selling for over a million pounds and often used as stage sets for films. ‘Sea Gem’ was recently featured in the TV programme, ‘Homes by the Sea’

'Whitesands' is a new timber clad housing development attracting London buyers for holiday homes to escape city life or even as an investment to let out and around the dunes there is an eclectic mix of wooden bungalows that being snapped up, as are the ultra-modern eco-friendly development of ‘Royal William Square’ that combines quality, contemporary design with environmental sustainability.

At Camber there is a coastal hotel ‘The Gallivant’. With its award-winning restaurant, it is very popular with the London set and has also become a desirable wedding venue, offering photo-shoots on the beach.

Beyond Camber, the sea road winds round to Jury’s Gap, where collections of individual dwellings line the coast, their precarious position now strengthened by the building up of the sea defences:- a multi-million-pound project to protect the low levels of the marshes.

Sporting activities such as kite-surfing, wind surfing and sand yachting are popular here.
