Fairfield is about one mile from Appledore it is accessed by a winding narrow road, which eventually ends up at a junction on the main road to Rye. The main feature of Fairfield is the Church of St. Thomas-a-Becket that stands alone, almost an island, in the middle of a field. There are past stories of the local congregation having the travel to church by boat, before the sea receded. It was built in 1200 of timber lath and plaster but later, in 1912, strengthened with bricks. There are a few isolated properties dotted along the quiet lane.
